AI agents: jobs for Duke on a schedule
Describe a job in plain words, choose what Duke may use and when it runs, try a test run, and decide which messages may go out without asking.
About this app: AI agents on the SmartDuke site
On this page
An AI agent is a job you give Duke in plain words, such as “Every Monday, find members who haven't come in for two weeks and invite them back.” Duke works out what to do each time, as you, and asks you before anything changes or goes out.

Duke decides, or fixed steps?
Duke's work has two kinds of work:
- Duke decides (an AI agent): for work that needs judgement, like writing a personal message for each person. Uses AI credits.
- Fixed steps (an automation): the same steps every time something happens. Free and predictable. See Automations.
Not sure? On Give Duke work, describe the job and click Ask Duke which kind fits.
Create an AI agent
- Open Duke's work and click Give Duke work, then Let Duke decide.
- Give it a Name (for example “Renewal reminders”).
- Under What should it do?, describe the job, for example: “Every morning, find members whose membership ends in the next 3 days. Write each a friendly reminder and propose sending it. Tell me how many.”
- Under It may use, click Add or remove and choose what the job needs (for example finding members and sending emails). Tools that make changes are marked asks you. An agent can never use more than you can yourself.
- Under When it runs, choose Only when I ask, Every day or Every week (and the day), and the time.
- Optionally set a Monthly limit of AI credits. It stops for the month when it's used them (100 credits = $1).
- Click Create agent.
Try a test run first
Click Test run. It works on today's data and shows what it would do, but changes nothing and sends nothing. When you're happy, click Run it for real or Turn on.
On the agent's page you'll also find Run now, Pause or Turn on, Delete, the Next run, the credits used this month, and the History of runs.
Sending from your templates without asking
Normally every message and change waits for your approval. You can let one kind of message go out on its own:
- Tick Send from my templates without asking.
- Choose Which messages may go out on their own: your email or WhatsApp templates.
- Set the limit: Up to 50 a run (1 to 500). More than that waits for you.
Only messages that are entirely one of your templates, filled in with the person's details, go out on their own. Messages Duke writes himself, and every other change, still wait for you.
Approvals and notifications
Changes an agent proposes wait in Waiting for you for 24 hours, for you only. You're notified when an agent has changes waiting, when it finishes, and if it couldn't run.
Good to know
- Agents work as you, see only what you may see, and are private to you.
- Agents can't change settings, automations or other agents.
- Scheduled agents start within a few minutes of their time, in your business's time zone.
Ask Duke inside the app, or write to us and a person will help.
