Importing your customers

Bring your existing customers (and their memberships) in from a spreadsheet in a few minutes.

On this page

If your customers are in a spreadsheet, another app or a notebook, you can bring them into SmartDuke in one go.

1. Get a CSV file

Export your customers from your old system, or put them in a spreadsheet with one row per person and columns such as first name, last name, email, phone and tags. Save it as CSV (in Excel: File → Save as → CSV).

2. Import it

  1. Go to Settings → Security and data and choose Import (or click Import on the Contacts page).
  2. Under What are you importing?, choose Contacts. If you also want their memberships, choose Members with their memberships (create your membership plans first, with the same names as in your file).
  3. Click Choose a CSV file.
  4. Match each field to a column in your file, and say how dates are written.
  5. Click Check the first rows and look at the preview.
  6. Click Import.

It runs in the background. When it's done you'll see how many were added, how many were already there and which rows had problems.

Good to know

  • People whose email is already in SmartDuke are skipped, so importing the same file twice is safe.
  • Importing never sends welcome emails or starts other automations.
  • Files can be up to 2 MB and 10,000 rows.

For all the details, see Imports.
